What we see emerging now and continuing through 2007 is a bold new sense of sophistication and the courage to reinterpret the past by juxtaposing its design elements with surprising textures, scales, and colors.
The following are the most important and influential trends:
- The Love of Luxe
- The Drama of Giant Scale
- The Seductiveness of Surface Ornamentation
- The New Modern
The Love of Luxe: It manifests itself in wovens that have much finer yarns and are woven much more tightly, giving the surface a more refined appearance, making pattern details more pronounced. Plus the natural shimmer and luster of the yarns is considerably more evident. The whole effect is one of glistening luxury, refinement and opulence.
The Drama of Giant Scale: This is the newest trend and got a big push forward by the renaissance of the Modern style. Look for simplified traditional motifs and simplified geometric patterns in very bold, very graphic, and highly contrasting color schemes.
The Seductiveness of Surface Ornamentation: Once again, surface shimmer and luster is paramount. Embroidery of all kinds, in all sorts of materials, and in all sorts of textures is expanding. This revitalizes crushed, plisséd, and pin tucked fabrics. This will reinforce the popularity of trims and fringes on everything.
